Oh okay. So the song is in drop. D tuning.
Do you just take your your eastern tunic to your d string. And as you can see the capos the fourth fret. I play it the way that lindsey buckingham did it originally theres other ways of playing it that avoid this this bar or you can just you know do those kind of things.
Which makes it easier on the hand and overall easier to play. But for me i like to do things like they were done i dont know just just the way i like to do it so. This is the way.
Its done on the record. Okay. So drop d tuning.
So theres a lot of picking going on in this song. Its i wouldnt call it a beginner song. Its fairly advanced picking.
But the you know the saving grace is the left hand is pretty easy so what im going to do is im going to go over the left hand positions first okay and then well talk about picking. And when it comes down to learning. This song.
Theres basically seven figures that are played in the tune. Okay and theyre all just a slightly bit different and you need to learn all seven and then you need to practice putting them all together. But for now.
Lets just talk about the left hand okay. So the first chord is just that its just its like a d. A d.
Over an a bass. Basically okay right there so um. Youve got that and then you hammer it on first when youre picking is picking those two notes that the b string and the d string.
But i wont worry about the picking right now. Well just worry about left hand um. Then you got there.
Which is um. Im going to talk about the frets as if the nut is already as if the capo was the nut um. So there youve got one.
Two three four five d.
5b. Five. So okay.
D 5b v. Um. And then youve got this chord.
Here. Which is basically a d5. A b.
5. And then i bar down here on the second fret okay. So thats the so so far.
Weve got that hammered that and this and then weve got the part that goes so thats just there the d5 and the b5 slide that two frets back down two frets. Okay now that the next bit is that high bet a bet. And what youve got here is aybar here on the whats one two three four five six seventh fret okay.
Im barring the d string and the g string. Actually im going to bar all of them and then with my little finger. Im going to come up here to the tenth fret and do the b string.
And the e string so b. 10 and e. 10.
So youve got that figure. There all these get these other fingers out of the way you can see and then thats followed by this of course you just leave the bar there you go b8 e. 9.
Remember that im calling these frets as if the capo was the nut. Okay thats pretty simple up there just do the two patterns and then the next bit is down here. Where you got a b minor and then youve got your bar.
Here and you play efore. So you go from here and back to the b. Minor and then weve got an a a chord here barred with your little finger up on the fifth fret e string.
So that whole section is okay. So thats your left hand. Now your right hand.
Probably the best way to think about it is to break it down into what your thumb is doing what your fingers are doing i wont be able to explain everything the fingers are doing.
But the thumb is really straightforward okay. Its just your basic travis picking pattern just a fancy name for doing this okay so just a string d. String.
A string d. String. Thats 90 of the song right there okay.
This part here it gets even simpler. Its just a string d. String.
So those two patterns is pretty well. All your thumbs going to do okay. So.
If youre getting confused. And getting kind of off track. Just always remember that thats all the thumb is going to do and this okay now as far as the picking goes.
Theres certain things where were just going to use our middle finger on the b string. Like here. Okay.
Because our thumbs taking care of muscles. That work. There.
Were just. I guess. The middle finger would just go up.
But yeah. That with the thumb okay and the same one. Were doing you right so.
Thats pretty well on my middle. Finger. And then youve got a lot of sections.
Where hes doing of course. The thumb thing. And hes doing the fingers.
Three fingers third finger on the e string second finger on the b string.
First finger on the g string. Just doing this so. Its just just in order.
Right. Key string b. String g.
String. And youve got the thumb going can you put those together. And you get this.
So my fingers just going. And my thumb is just doing the hat right and that finger comes in when my thumb hits that d string right okay. So thats probably a good thing just to practice.
It is just just just to be able to do that okay and it does it it does it in this figure to where youve got that so you got the fingers doing that in the thumb doing okay and theres actually a video online that you can see if the man himself lindsey buckingham and he explains it like the thumb is doing four right one two three four one two three and the fingers are doing three. So. So its a little tricky to get that right okay yeah.
So so that thats basically what what the picking hand is doing so. What im going to do now is ill just show you the seven things the seven patterns that you need to learn ill play them super slow okay. So heres pattern.
One you okay is pattern too pattern three patter for you again powder five comes up here patter six and then the final pattern pattern. 7. Okay and of course on their record.
When hes playing those patterns. He does little variations here and there changes things up a little bit as the song goes by but essentially its those seven patterns that you need to learn okay and then you need to practice putting putting them together for me personally the part that i find the hardest is coming out of here right here. I find that real that transition hard like up to speed like my practices.
Quite a bit. But still find that really tricky okay. So thats basically how to play the song.
Lindsey buckingham is just ism. Hes a real artist. Hes an excellent guitarist brilliant producer too and but more than anything.
Hes a real artist you watch all his stuff online and when he performs. I mean he doesnt do it like the record he changes it up and he really really plays from the heart. I have a lot of respect for him.
So yeah. Thats pretty well it hope you get something out of it see .
